Optimum safety thanks to hinged gates with 90 minutes fire resistance and 8 metres width

Stuttgart's Schlossplatz is regarded as the actual centre of the city and is a popular meeting place. The square is visually defined by the garden and the Königsbau, built in the mid-19th century. It houses various shops, boutiques, and restaurants. A further magnet is the Königsbau-Passagen shopping arcade behind it. The Königsbau underground car park serves for parking. In the event of a fire, the car park is equipped, among other things, with special "System Schröders" hinged gates, which were manufactured and installed by HORCH Stahltüren und -Tore.

The underground car park near the Königsbau allows visitors to park in the immediate vicinity of the popular Schlossplatz and is therefore heavily frequented. This makes reliable fire and smoke protection all the more essential – protection that saves lives in an emergency. Due to the lack of space and the low ceiling height, a custom solution had to be found that fulfils all requirements for fire and smoke control.

In cooperation with the door developer System Schröders, HORCH from Neudenau constructed four double-leaf hinged gates with 90 minutes fire resistance (EI₂90-S_a-C2), some of which are equipped with additional threshold-free escape doors.

HORCH has great expertise and experience in the construction and installation of custom fire protection closures.

Particular challenges in the construction of the gates were maintaining stability in the event of a fire and guaranteeing durability as well as safe self-closing despite the enormous leaf weight of up to one tonne of the gates measuring up to 8 x 3.5 metres. Due to the large width and the threshold-free escape doors, a "Specific Technical Documentation" (STD) within the meaning of the Construction Products Regulation was required, which was issued by System Schröders and reviewed by MPA NRW (Materials Testing Institute North Rhine-Westphalia).

This institute ultimately also issued the Certificate of Constancy of Performance for HORCH. On the basis of the STD and the Certificate of Constancy of Performance, the gates could be CE-marked and Declarations of Performance issued.
