System Schröders doors in potentially explosive atmospheres
All System Schröders hinged doors may be installed in hazardous areas according to
- DIN EN 1127-1
- EX-Zone 1, EX-Zone 21 (Category 2) and
- Ex-Zone 2, EX-Zone 22 (Category 3)
are permissible.
According to the ATEX guidelines of the European Commission for Directive 2014/34/EU (directive for harmonising the legislation of Member States for equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres), self-closing doors do not fall within the scope of Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX), as they do not constitute an independent ignition source.
Equipment for System Schröders doors in hazardous areas
The following equipment is required for System Schröders doors in hazardous areas:
- Stainless steel push plate
- Door closer according to EN 1154 (also for doors without fire or smoke protection requirements)
- Metal locks with steel latch and bolt
- Strike plates made of steel / stainless steel
- Warning sign Clean damp only
- Potential equalisation from door leaf to frame (earthing strap)
- Potential equalisation from frame to building structure
The following equipment must not be used in hazardous areas:
- Electrical components without ATEX approval / conformity (e.g. hold-open devices, electric door opener, electric locks, alarm wire inserts, emergency exit door openers)
- Bottom sweep seals
- Plastic push plate assemblies
- Plastic kickplates
- Spring hinges
