High-quality door solutions for a modern multi-storey car park
The new multi-storey car park at Ulm Central Station is an outstanding example of modern infrastructure that combines functionality and design. With a total of 540 parking spaces on four levels, the building sets architectural accents with a striking LED colour scheme. At the same time, it impresses with the highest safety standards.
A central component of the safety concept is the door solutions from System Schröders. They were manufactured and installed by Hodapp GmbH & Co. KG, a recognised specialist and long-standing licensee of System Schröders.
Challenge: Safety and functionality in urban environments
Multi-storey car parks must withstand extreme stresses and fulfil the highest safety requirements:
- Safety requirements for fire protection: The doors must reliably fulfil the fire protection classifications T30 and T90 according to DIN 4102-5 and smoke control RS according to DIN 18095 and must also function reliably on escape routes under panic conditions.
- Additional requirements for burglar resistance: The doors must fulfil burglar resistance class RC3 according to DIN EN 1627.
- Mechanical stresses from daily vehicle traffic, but also vandalism and impact loads: On escape routes or driveways, the doors must function safely even when used improperly.
- Environmental conditions such as moisture or salts from rain, snow, and de-icing salt in winter. Temperature fluctuations with heat in summer and frost in winter also put a strain on the materials.
- Long-term stress from frequent use in high-traffic areas. The doors are opened and closed thousands of times a day.
The selected doors must withstand these stresses over many years – without losing safety, functionality, or appearance.
Tailor-made System Schröders door solutions
For the multi-storey car park at Ulm Central Station, specially developed steel doors from the System Schröders ModulSystem are used.
The solid door leaves are made of galvanized steel sheet with a sheet thickness of 1.5 mm and a door leaf thickness of 69 mm. This choice of material ensures permanent durability – even under the demanding conditions of a multi-storey car park.
The doors are characterised by flexibility, custom dimensions, and extensive combination options. Optionally, they can be equipped with additional performance characteristics such as airtightness and sound insulation, driving rain tightness, as well as resistance to wind load.
Safety and aesthetics in harmony
The close cooperation between System Schröders and Hodapp GmbH & Co. KG – responsible for engineering, production, and installation – was crucial for the successful completion. Thanks to the long-standing partnership, Hodapp's know-how as a licensee, and the trust that has grown over the years, the door solutions could be precisely tailored to the requirements of the construction project.
The multi-storey car park at Ulm Central Station is therefore state of the art in terms of architecture and safety technology. The door solutions from System Schröders impress with their quality, adaptability, and standards-compliant execution. They are the ideal choice for demanding construction projects in urban environments.
The project impressively demonstrates how modern door technology helps to make public buildings safer and more functional without having to compromise on aesthetic standards. With System Schröders and Hodapp as partners, Ulm is relying on reliable and future-proof solutions.
The combination of innovative technology, high-quality materials, and custom adaptation makes the multi-storey car park at Ulm Central Station a model for similar projects in other cities.
